How to get shirt-shop results from your ironing service

Steam iron and folded laundry on an ironing board

Ironing is the task customers most often add to a regular clean, and it is also the easiest one to get wrong at home.

Sort before you switch on

Group items by fabric and iron from the coolest upwards — synthetics, then silk and wool, then cotton and linen. That way the plate never has to cool down and you avoid scorch marks.

Iron slightly damp

Linen and cotton press far better with a light mist of water. If a shirt has dried bone hard, spray it and roll it for a few minutes before starting.

Shirts in order

Collar, cuffs, sleeves, yoke, then the body with the placket last. Hang each shirt immediately — a warm shirt left folded creases straight back in.

Our cleaners can iron during a regular visit or take a basket as a standalone booking; just tell us how you would like things folded or hung.
